My childhood and yours

Everyone has a story to tell about his/her childhood.Mine was great but nothing out of the ordinary.I spent most of my growing up years in Maryland and Ikeja.I was the only girl so Dad was understandably extra strict on me.I grew up in the era of New masquerade, checkmate, behind the clouds, palace, fortunes, the millers and some I can't remember.I went to a boarding school.Yeah,I got independent early in life and i remember my younger bother ( i love him so much) would record every episode of checkmate for me which i watched when on holidays.
I grew up in the era when timberlands and biker boots were the in thing for boys.In the era of bandana scarves,Chelsea boots, clogs, platforms, ankle boots, swing gowns and rock sacks.Remember?I grew up in the time when summer lessons were the ish then.If you didn't go to any summer lessons, you probably wasn't hip lol.I remember Top tutors, prime instructors, ashdale etc. Those were the moments you get to show off your new clothes and get to mix with others from different schools.I grew up in the era of posting letters. Each time I opened the post box and I saw a letter from my secondary school friend,Bukky Osinowo,my heart melted.I grew up in the era of land phones.966334.OMG!That was our landline number bhuahaha.I remember TV stations started at 4pm with Those multicoloured stripes and 5 pm with either voltron or superted.Who's feeling me here?I remember every Sunday, dad would drive me down to Alausa sectretariat for some one hour driving lessons which I always failed anyway because he was always shouting at me lmao.
I was a shielded child.I wasn't allowed friends. And if any friend came,I must not see her off.And if I did,I mustn't go past the gate. Those were the rules.I grew up in the era where every child shouted up nepa each time the light came up.How can i forget my secondary school years?I went to a boarding school and I grew up with some seniors from hell.I grew up in the time when boarding schools had some mysterious stories to tell.In my time,There was a mysterious story about a lady who lost her child in a girls' school and went to every girl's hostel in search of her child. And this lady chose not to come during the day when the sky was bright except at night when every soul was sleeping. And she made some creepy noises to alert us she was around. They called her sisi kako.Writing this piece gave me nostalgia. Some got me teary eyed and some got me smiling and grining.Did anything sound familiar to you?Did we grow up in the same era?Share yours with me let's have a laugh together.
